Erling Aadland is professor of comparative literature at the university of Bergen, but the
book is written as an essay, not the usual academic form. In the book he tries to follow
the love-theme through its different forms and figurations on Cohen´s records. The
book is very favourable for Cohen as poet: it considers him one of the most important
poets in the singer-song-writing tradition. It is very convincing (giving examples all the
way).
